When Joe Ferguson stepped down from the EPB board of directors in 2019, he did so with a pretty specific caveat.
“I may be retiring from the EPB board,” he said at the time, “but I’m not retiring from the community.”
Former Chattanooga Mayor Bob Corker said Tuesday that Ferguson, who died June 12, was as good as his word. Corker said that after he retired from the U.S. Senate in 2019, he and Ferguson would meet and talk about how best to advance various community projects.
“Whether he was in a position of leadership or just trying to help as a citizen, Joe was continually putting his shoulder to the wheel to help make good things happen in our community,” Corker said in a telephone interview.
