A Whitwell man has been arrested and charged with criminal homicide after a body was found in Prentice Cooper State Forest.

Billy Massengale, 48, was identified as a man investigators wanted to question soon after the homicide investigation into the death of Danny Durham, 66, began.

Massengale had already been charged on outstanding warrants with aggravated assault and false imprisonment, unrelated to the homicide investigation. The criminal homicide charge was added by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday, according to a release from the bureau.

Durham’s body was discovered March 9 at a house on Big Rock Road in Marion County.
