Looking for the perfect Southern drinks to pair with your barbecue? The staff at Puckett’s and Purple Daisy Picnic Cafe know a thing or two about good barbecue bevvies, and we picked their brains so we could share their tried-and-true favorites.
Puckett’s Chattanooga bar manager Alyssa Snyder recommends beer drinkers go for the Puckett’s Brew, a helles (German for “pale”) lager brewed for the restaurant by Nashville’s Blackstone Brewing Company.
“That’s a good, light, easy-drinking, crisp beer,” she says of Puckett’s Brew, which she likes to pair with either the cherry wood-smoked wings tossed in barbecue sauce or the Mojo Burger — a hand-patted beef burger topped with pulled pork, coleslaw, baked beans, cheddar and housemade barbecue chipotle ranch sauce. “That beer with that heavy burger is just the perfect pairing. It’s not too much.”
Snyder also likes the Stout of Tune from Chattanooga’s WanderLinger Brewing Company with a platter of pulled pork, brisket or smoked half chicken topped with Puckett’s Spicy BBQ Sauce.
