A Walker County woman was arrested and charged with animal cruelty.
Renva Sue Gravitt, 58, faces 22 counts of animal cruelty after a code enforcement investigation at 35 Gentry Road in Chickamauga resulted in the discovery of numerous dogs living in unsanitary conditions, including in sheds with little to no ventilation, according to a Wednesday news release from Walker County.
Gravitt was also charged with 10 counts of failure to maintain responsibility for control of rabies.
The investigation came after a complaint about garbage on the property, the release said.
Twelve dogs and 10 chickens lived in an accumulation of feces and urine, garbage and debris and inadequate water, according to the release. Gravitt surrendered two of the dogs and all of the chickens to the Walker County Animal Shelter. The remaining dogs are on a court hold pending the outcome of the case.
