Much as he’s done all season, Boyd Buchanan senior David Green kick-started a barrage of points to help lead his football team to a comfortable lead by halftime on the way to a dominant win Friday night.
With the 35-0 victory over visiting Franklin Grace, the top-ranked Buccaneers advance to the TSSAA Division II-AA semifinals for the third straight season, and this time Boyd Buchanan (11-0) will host third-ranked Battle Ground Academy (11-1).
That matchup is set for 7 p.m. next Friday, with the winner advancing to the BlueCross Bowl state championship game on Dec. 4 at Finley Stadium.
Green’s first touchdown came on a 38-yard first-quarter run, but it was his 84-yard punt return for a score that began a 21-0 second-quarter run to put the game away.
Boyd Buchanan’s defense was once again impenetrable as the Lions were held to minus-9 yards rushing and were outgained 343-163 in total offense. The Bucs, who have scored at least 32 points in every game, gained 230 of their total yards on the ground, led by two-time Tennessee Titans Mr. Football semifinalist Green’s 81 yards on just eight carries.
