For a little more than 1% of what Chattanooga spent to develop its new visual brand, the city of Collegedale is asking residents and local college students to design a new municipal logo, mood board, color palette and more in a contest.

Submissions for the competition opened this week. The winning entry could be selected for use by the city and will earn a $2,500 prize regardless, which officials said on social media could result in a significant haul of Little Debbie snack cakes, a nod to the Collegedale-based brand.

Tonya Sadler, vice mayor, said she came up with the idea for a contest, knowing that local municipalities like Chattanooga have recently rebranded at a significant cost. It was also an ideal time for a rebrand, given the committee tasks she’s currently working on.

“And I was like, we have a college here, and we have some very creative people in the community,” Sadler said by phone. “Let’s save some money and get people involved and see what we come up with.”
