A pair of successful Chattanooga-area prep baseball programs will have new leadership for the coming season.

After leading Red Bank to its first district and region postseason championships since 2012, Matt Roberson was announced as the next Boyd Buchanan head coach earlier this month. Roberson is joined by assistant coach Gene Bowles after the two helped revive the Lions’ baseball program and win close to 60 games in three seasons.

Red Bank did not wait long to name the program’s replacement for Roberson as Chattanooga native Cordaro Cummings was announced as the next head coach on Tuesday.

Boyd Buchanan won 33 games two seasons ago on its way to a Final Four finish in Division II-A, and the Bucs return four-year impact starters in catcher Aaron Hise (Walters State signee) and left-handed pitcher Carter Hinsley.

“I am very excited to be chosen to lead Boyd Buchanan baseball into their next chapter of success,” said Roberson, a native of Cartersville, Georgia. “My family and I are thrilled to join the Boyd Buchanan community and play a part in its future as well. The expectation of our program will be not only to be the best on the field but also the best off the field.
