Gordon Lee’s best football season since 2002 ended Friday night with a 17-7 loss at top-ranked Worth County in the GHSA Class A Division I quarterfinals.

The sixth-seeded Trojans, who finished 11-2, went toe to toe with third-seeded Worth (13-0) in Sylvester before being subdued by the Rams’ suffocating defense and the playmaking of Kaden Chester, their senior running back.

Chester scored on a 1-yard run to cap an opening drive in which quarterback Lyndon Worthy — who finished the game 15-of-19 passing for 192 yards — converted on third-and-15 with a pass to Jaquaveon Nelson and later hit Nelson for 40 yards to the 1.

Gordon Lee, after reaching the Worth 5-yard line on its opening drive before missing a field-goal attempt, pulled even in the second quarter when Layne Vaughn capped a 71-yard drive that ate up more than eight minutes of game clock. Trojans quarterback Dustin Day had a 16-yard third-down conversion pass to Noah Garrison and later hit Brisyn Oliver for 14 yards on fourth-and-7 to the 27 to spark the drive.
