During his weekly news conference Monday afternoon, Ole Miss football coach Lane Kiffin was asked whether he or Georgia’s Kirby Smart burned more calories during games due to their animated sideline antics.

Kiffin’s No. 5 Rebels face Smart’s No. 9 Bulldogs this Saturday inside Sanford Stadium.

“That’s a good question,” Kiffin said. “I walked by the TV and saw his press conference today, and it doesn’t look like he’s burned too many calories. He does have a lot of energy in games, and he coaches really passionately.

“I’ve given him heat before about the weight-loss part. He says he’s too stressed to work out.”

A decade ago, Kiffin and Smart were the two coordinators under Alabama’s Nick Saban. Kiffin was in the middle of his three-year run guiding the Crimson Tide’s offense, and they won Southeastern Conference championships in each of those 2014-16 seasons, while Smart was in the eighth and final season heading Alabama’s defense.
