A photograph of its founder, an insurance card, copies of its charter and an issue of the Chattanooga Times Free Press.

Those were among the items in a time capsule buried by BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee officials in April 2009. The event was intended to commemorate the insurer’s new $299 million headquarters atop Cameron Hill.

“I think it’s a lovely building,” said retired BlueCross CEO Tom Kinser. “It hits the right tone.”

BlueCross officials named a glass conference center in its new headquarters for the late Roy McDonald, the company’s founder and longtime publisher of the Chattanooga Free Press.
