The Hamilton County Baptist Association has hired a new director of missions after seven months of searching.
Scott Harris will move to Chattanooga from Springfield, Illinois, where he has served as the Illinois Baptist State Convention’s mission team leader and evangelism director since 2021. He will begin as Hamilton County Baptist Association’s director of missions on Nov. 10 and will speak at the association’s 75th annual meeting Oct. 14.
Harris, when addressing the group’s executive board on a video conference, said his passion is for pastors and the local church. He felt led to a position where he could have deeper and more direct relationships with local pastors, he said, and as he was going through the interview process, he felt God calling him to Hamilton County.
“One of the things that I have seen over and over again is that having those relationships with the pastors and being able to love on them and pour into them and encourage them is a great help and benefit to them,” Harris said to pastors, ministry leaders and churchgoers from across the county. “It’s one of the things that I love, because I want to be a cheerleader and encourager to pastors and staff.”
