The Tennessee Volunteers have not had a slew of road trips in recent football seasons that would be considered unique.
They traveled to Pittsburgh for the first time in 2022 and played at LSU that same season for the first time since 2010. There weren’t any unusual trips in 2023 — unless traveling to Nashville to face Virginia fits that description — and Tennessee journeyed to Oklahoma last year for the first time since 2014.
This season’s rare venture takes place Saturday, when the Vols for the first time since 2012 trek to Mississippi State to experience Davis Wade Stadium and the cowbells that come with it.
“I think it will be cool to be in that type of environment and with it being hostile,” said Vols sixth-year senior defensive lineman Bryson Eason, who has experienced every Southeastern Conference venue except the two in Mississippi and the two in Texas. “I’m ready for it. I love hostile environments. I think they can bring out the best in people.
“It’s going to be something new dealing with a whole bunch of cowbells, but I think it’s going to be cool. I think we’re going to go out there and fly around and have some fun.”
