A Chattanooga police K-9 died Wednesday from medical complications, according to a press release from the Chattanooga Police Department.
It was the second time in a week a Police Department K-9 died. On Sept. 17, K-9 Diesel, a 3-year-old German shepherd, was put down after suffering severe leg injuries when he ran through shards of glass during a security sweep of a home where police thought someone who had earlier taken a hostage might still be inside.
On Tuesday, K-9 Buck, a 2-year-old Labrador, experienced gastrointestinal issues and seemed lethargic to his handler, Master Police Officer Lucas Timmons. Buck was taken to his veterinarian, who referred him to a specialist, the press release said.

It was found that Buck was experiencing septic peritonitis that progressed to disseminated intravascular coagulation — a life-threatening complication with a high mortality rate. Despite all measures taken to save his life, Buck did not survive, according to the release.
