I love bread.

I have always loved bread.

I remember going to the movie theater to see “A Bug’s Life” with my family when I was a kid. We went to the grocery store next to the theater to grab snacks. I vaguely remember some string cheese, but what I remember best was a warm loaf of sourdough. The bread had just been taken out of the oven and bagged, so when I sat in the dark theater and pulled out a slice, the doughy center was still warm in my hands.

When I was in fourth grade, I subsisted on peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and Lip Smacker Chapstick.

When I was straight out of college and working my first real job, I worked the late shift. When I would come home from the CNN headquarters around 10:30 p.m., I would make myself a slide of avocado toast and pour myself a glass of red wine. I had a panini press at the time, so yes, I was living in the lap of luxury.
