Betty Duggan hopes to support teachers and improve school facilities as a member of the Hamilton County Board of Education.

Duggan, who lives in the Concord neighborhood, moved to District 8 two years ago after previously having spent more than 25 years living in Hamilton County. Before retiring, she worked as an anthropology professor, museum curator and teacher.

Duggan, 73, will face Katie Perkins of East Ridge in the Democratic primary for the District 8 school board seat. The district represents the East Ridge area.

The winner will face the victor of the Republican primary — either Sabrina Daniel or Sterling DuPré, both of East Ridge — in the Aug. 6 general election. The seat is held by Larry Grohn, R-East Ridge, who is not running for reelection.
