Weekend winners

David Gabriel Georges. Yes, he wins just about every day that ends in “y,” but in ultimate Nuke LaLoosh style — “I wanna announce my presence with authority” — DGG took his first carry of his first scrimmage of his last year with Baylor 54 yards for a TD. Yes, that will happen more than a couple dozen times this year and beyond. But this was at Buford — the defending big-classification Georgia state title winner and the reigning MaxPreps national high school football champion — which is even more impressive. Gang, we’ve said it before and likely will say it again — he’s the best high school football player I’ve ever seen. And it’s not close. Here’s more from Hargis — rules, friends — as he made the drive to Buford.

Hall of Fame speeches, especially Adam Vinatieri. The stage is always special for the game’s greats to be immortalized, and Saturday was no different. Larry Fitzgerald was great with the mic, almost as great as his playing career. And know this, Fitz was amazing, and is the holder of one of my favorite all-time NFL stats. Fitzgerald had more career tackles as a WR1 than drops in his career. Read that again. As for Vinatieri, well, he said his former coach, Bill Belichick, missed the ceremony because he was judging his girlfriend’s cheerleading competition, thanked Peyton Manning for allowing the HoF to use his forehead as the Jumbotron for the broadcast and saved his best for Pat McAfee, his teammate and kick holder in Indy. Adam, is the 7:30 show different from the 9:30 show? And remember to tip the wait staff.

Jacob Misiorowski. First, the Brewers ace was on the McAfee show Friday with professional wrestler The Miz, who detailed that five years ago he got hundreds of social media mentions a day for being a WWE champion. Now he gets hundreds of mentions for throwing 106 mph in reference to the Milwaukee hard-throwing right-hander with the same moniker. Then the pitching Miz got the ball Sunday and recorded his 200th strikeout of the season. He’s the quickest to that plateau in MLB history by getting it in fewer than 130 innings. Also, the pitching Miz is just the second pitcher in MLB history with 200 Ks and a sub-2.00 earned run average through his first 22 starts in a season. The other? Pedro Martinez, who did it in 1997 and 2000.
