The night before police found Kara Akins dead in her home, her neighbor’s camera recorded Lawrence Goodine as he ran across a dark Chattanooga street and grabbed her, according to prosecutor Roger Layne.
“As he’s pulling her toward the home, she’s pleading with him,” Layne said during opening statementsin Goodine’s trial Monday. “She’s saying, ‘No, no, stop, why are you doing this? Lawrence, why are you doing this?'”
About six hours later, Layne said, Goodine, 46, dialed 911 on Nov. 29, 2023, at 3:16 a.m.
According to Layne, one of Goodine’s friends will tell the jury that Akins was alive, crying and begging to be released hours before that call.
