A season marked by inconsistency for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men’s basketball team continued Saturday, when the Mocs lost 78-71 at home to The Citadel to fall to 10-15 overall and 4-8 in the Southern Conference.

In their past four games, the Mocs have lost by 26 at home to Wofford, fallen behind by 24 in the first half at Furman only to rally to lose by five, beaten a Mercer team that’s one of the top four in the league standings, then struggled to make plays down the stretch in the loss to the Bulldogs (9-16, 6-6) in front of 3,750 at McKenzie Arena.

“There’s individual things I can count on,” UTC fourth-year head coach Dan Earl said. “But that’s part of our problem is the inconsistency, and unfortunately, we haven’t been able to figure it out. One game, somebody will play well or compete harder, another game, somebody doesn’t have it that day, and from a shot-making standpoint, that’s going to happen.

“But from a competitive standpoint, you can’t let that happen.”
