The city of Collegedale’s gambit to ask residents and local college students to design the town’s new branding paid off, according to town officials, as a winner was unanimously selected at Wednesday’s commission meeting.

Laurissa Mancia, a junior at Southern Adventist University who moved to the town when she was 12, won the bid to have her design become the new logo and the contest’s $2,500 grand prize. The design incorporated a homegrown look, according to Vice Mayor Tonya Sadler.

“It sparkled when she presented it,” she said by phone. “We wanted the new look to be homegrown, and just utilizing the local talent made all the difference for us.”

Sadler said when the contest started in November, there was concern that the town would get no submissions. Nine submissions were entered, she said, and the finalists exceeded expectations.
