The Chickamauga City Council set the date to consider removing Mayor James C. Deck III. The removal procedures were set in motion at a prior meeting Jan. 13 after three minutes of deliberation.

Mayor Pro Tem Evitte Parrish will lead the proceedings at 4 p.m. Friday. The city attorney and Deck — or his legal counsel, Jeremy Penland — will have the chance to present information as to why the mayor should or should not be removed from office.

Parrish was appointed by Deck as mayor pro tem about a year ago, Parrish said by phone. Parrish did not wish to comment on the upcoming meeting.

It is unknown why the council is contemplating Deck’s removal.

Once both sides have had the opportunity to present and respond, the public hearing will end. From there, the council will vote on how to proceed.

Penland has not responded to requests for comment.
