Slush fund just the latest
Why do many media sources report President Trump settled his $10 billion lawsuit against the Treasury Department for leaking his tax documents to allow him to create a $1.8 billion “slush fund” to repay supporters targeted by Biden’s “weaponized” Justice Department? This misses the point.
Actually, the bill was for $1,776,000,000, intentionally coinciding with the date American colonists declared their independence from Great Britain. Jan. 6 is revered by MAGA as a second American Revolution, and those J6 Capitol rioters he calls “peaceful protestors” will be compensated for the costs of their trials, incarceration and embarrassment. Of course, he is the object his followers want to install as Supreme Leader, king, Generalissimo, whatever.
Banners of Trump have been placed on several federal buildings. He added his name to the Kennedy Center. He has ambitious plans for a White House ballroom (“fit for a king”), and a triumphal arch that will block views of the Lincoln Memorial and Arlington Cemetery. He’s preparing for a Fourth of July UFC contest on the White House lawn.
I fear as we celebrate the July 4 of 250 years ago, it will be tinged with a celebration of the Jan. 6 of just five years ago.
