The final tarps on the Walnut Street Bridge came down Tuesday, revealing the full new paint job.
Aside from small touch-ups where the tarps were attached, the painting phase has been completed, according to a press release from the city of Chattanooga.
While there is still steel repair, woodwork, decking and electrical work to be done, the iconic silhouette of the bridge has returned. The project is on schedule to be completed in late September, the press release said.
So far, steel repairs are nearly done. Over 1,000 linear feet of decking has been completed, but over 1,000 linear feet remain. Crews are getting close to installing new light poles, according to the release.
The bridge closed almost a year ago for a projected 18-month renovation project, which is costing about $40 million.
