The University of Connecticut women’s basketball team heads into the NCAA Division I tournament unbeaten this season due in no small part to the play of senior Azzi Fudd and sophomore Sarah Strong, and they’ll try to help the top-seeded Huskies improve to 33-0 on Friday when they tip off their latest foray into March Madness.

On Wednesday, though, the perfect pair became the first teammates in six years to make The Associated Press All-America lineup.

It’s the 10th time players from the same school have made the AP All-America first team in women’s basketball in the same season, with seven of those instances involving UConn players. The most recent pair to achieve the feat before this season were Oregon’s Ruthy Hebard and Sabrina Ionescu in 2020.

Fudd and Strong were joined by Vanderbilt sophomore Mikayla Blakes, UCLA senior Lauren Betts and Texas junior Madison Booker on the first team.

Strong was a unanimous choice from the 31-member national media panel that votes in the AP Top 25 poll each week, while Betts and Blake received all but two first-place votes.
