COLLEGE PARK, Md. — UCLA slugger Megan Grant set the single-season home run record for NCAA Division I softball Saturday, when she hit her 38th of 2026.
Grant drove an 0-2 pitch from Nebraska’s Jordy Frahm deep to left-center field for a solo homer, giving UCLA a 2-0 lead in the third inning of the Big Ten tournament title game at the Maryland Softball Complex. The 5-foot-10 senior utility player from San Bruno, California, broke the record she shared for one day with former Arizona player Laura Espinoza, who hit 37 home runs for the Wildcats in 1995.
Grant tied the record Friday with a solo shot in the second inning of the Bruins’ 19-5 win over Wisconsin in the tourney’s semifinal round.
Nebraska, the bracket’s No. 1 seed and the country’s second-ranked team, defeated third-seeded, eighth-ranked UCLA 7-2 in the title matchup.
Grant trailed Oklahoma’s Kendall Wells by one homer for the national lead this season at the start of the week and heading into conference tournament play. Wells did not homer in Oklahoma’s loss to Georgia on Thursday as the Sooners went one-and-done at the Southeastern Conference tournament. Grant went deep in each of UCLA’s three Big Ten tournament games.
