When Kristen Thomas first had the idea to start an inclusive community choir, she wasn’t sure people would join.
“I was like, well, you know, maybe I can get like 20 of my friends to join,” Thomas said, “and it just kind of blew up from there.”
For Kaleidoscope Choir’s second rehearsal Wednesday, more than 70 people gathered at Pilgrim Congregational Church in Chattanooga.
Thomas is the choir’s artistic director. She wanted to create a space for people who want to sing, but maybe don’t have a place to do it.
Chattanooga has community choirs, Thomas said, but a lot of them require an audition or are for people singing at a higher level. Kaleidoscope Choir is a space for people with any level of experience, including no experience at all.
