Someone wants the people of Signal Mountain to think Popeyes is coming to town, but it’s not a franchise of the fast food chain known for its Cajun-spiced fried chicken.

“Someone has been playing jokes on us at that property,” said Janet Laskowski, who co-owns the property at 1305 Taft Highway where a sign announcing the opening of a Popeyes restaurant in June was recently posted and then removed.

The site was previously occupied by a McDonald’s restaurant, and the building was demolished after the business closed in 2020.

Laskowski said a sign falsely announcing a soon-to-come Starbucks cafe was removed last year from the same empty lot.
