When it came to the Tyner girls’ basketball team and the Lady Rams’ success so far this season, though, it was more of the same.

Senior point guard Mariya Staton had 16 points, six assists and five steals while leading Tyner to its 11th straight win, a hard-fought 46-44 victory over Soddy Daisy in the tourney opener.

The Lady Rams (11-1) also showcased their wide array of long-range shooters as five players combined for nine 3-pointers in the win, which included three straight in the first quarter.

“We are a senior-heavy team, and those girls have stepped up in a timely manner,” said fourth-year head coach Xavier Marshall, whose Lady Rams have not lost since dropping their opener to visiting Baylor on Nov. 18.
