Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department saved an apartment unit from burning to the ground this morning.
At 10:30 a.m., a 911 call came in, reporting a fire at Spring Green Apartment Complex at 5075 Ooltewah-Ringgold Road, said Amy Maxwell, Hamilton County Fire department spokeswoman.
Tri-Community arrived on the scene within minutes, reporting heavy smoke and fire coming from the front apartment window, Ms. Maxwell said.
Once firefighters were sure everyone was out of the apartment unit, they contained the fire to just the one apartment, and kept the fire from burning into the attic or the firewall, she said.
Four families were displaced and will be taken care of by the American Red Cross.
The fire’s cause appeared accidental, Ms. Maxwell reported.
