Although there were no failures, four Chattanooga area restaurants received negative marks this week after inspections by the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department.
The Captain D's Seafood at 668 Battlefield Parkway was dinged with a score of 78 after an inspection found the inside of an ice machine was dirty, an ice scoop being stored in an unclean area and food debris buildup on equipment and inside coolers and storage areas. Also, the person in charge was not able to demonstrate food safety knowledge.
Southern Squeeze Downtown at 818 Georgia Ave. received a score of 80 after an inspection discovered cockroaches in a prep area, wet wiping cloths stored on working surfaces, a soiled and dirty triple sink and food debris on clean dishes.
Shuford's Smokehouse at 3224 Dayton Blvd. got a score of 81 after an inspection found pinto beans are being reheated on the steam table that is not working properly; no paper towels in hand sink in kitchen; cooked green beans, coleslaw and other time and temperature control foods not date marked; food left uncovered in cooler.
A score of 88 was given to the Amigo's at 3805 Ringgold Road after an inspection revealed the presence of fruit flies at a weight station, a dispenser in the employee restroom unable to dispense paper towels and uncovered and unprotected food in a walk-in cooler.
Six area restaurants received perfect scores of 100.
The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department inspects restaurants twice a year and grades the businesses on a 100-point scale. Scores below 70 require corrective action.
Restaurants are reinspected if they fail to meet critical standards. To file a health-related complaint, call the Department of Environmental Health at 209-8110. The scores are original and do not reflect on-the-spot changes, which sometimes lead to upward adjustments.
