The Sports Authority of Chattanooga, the entity that owns AT&T Field, transferred responsibility for the property from the Chattanooga Lookouts to River City Co. ahead of the stadium’s demolition.

The Sports Authority will allow River City Co. access and use of the property on Hawk Hill through May 31, 2029, with two possible one-year extensions. River City Co., a local private nonprofit focused on downtown development, will be responsible for demolishing the stadium, which is planned for this summer, and insuring and maintaining the property.

The Sports Authority board unanimously approved the site access agreement and the termination of the Lookouts’ lease at a special meeting on Friday. The board has been referred to as the “old sports authority” since the creation of the joint Chattanooga-Hamilton County Sports Authority, the public corporation that owns the Lookouts’ new stadium, Erlanger Park.

River City Co. bought the property for $2.5 million in 1994. It was formerly home to the Kirkman Technical School from 1928 to 1991. The school’s mascot, the Golden Hawks, lent the hill its name.
