East Ridge City Manager William Whitson this afternoon resigned effective Friday, and the city council has approved his resignation.
Whitson's resignation comes after public pressure related to a $657,000 deficit in last year's budget.
Council members had asked Whitson, whom they hired 18 months ago, to resign.
The City Council is meeting to discuss the shortfall.
