2 die in separate Meigs crashes

Two people died in unrelated single-car crashes that also resulted in three people being injured in Meigs County over the weekend.

Police said none of those involved were wearing seat belts.

Sharon Hensley, 44, of Sweetwater, Tenn., died at 5:41 a.m. Saturday when she car she was riding in veered off state Highway 58 and rolled several times. Hensley was thrown out, Tennessee Highway Patrol dispatcher Jessica Partin said.

Driver Ricki Phillips, 30, of Decatur, Tenn., has been charged with vehicular homicide, Partin said. He and passenger Melissa Redman, 40, of Athens, Tenn., were injured.

On Sunday, Johnathan Flarity, 20, of Birchwood, died when his pickup truck left Blythe Ferry Road and hit a tree around 12:45 p.m., Partin said.

Passenger Joshua Barbee, 23, also of Birchwood, was taken to Erlanger hospital. His condition was unavailable late Sunday.

Trooper Rick Ray investigated both crashes, Partin said.
