Fleischmann kicks off "thank you tour"

by Larry Henry

Chattanooga attorney Chuck Fleischmann, the 3rd Congressional District GOP nominee, said Wednesday he hopes for party unity going into the November general election and welcomes those who voted for any of the 10 other Republicans who ran in the Aug. 5 primary election.

"For those who chose another candidate, welcome home to Team Chuck," he told supporters at the Hamilton County Republican Party headquarters on North Market Street.

Fleischmann addressed 19 staff members and supporters in kicking off a three-day "thank you tour" of the district's 11 counties. The 3rd District stretches from the Georgia to Kentucky state lines and includes Chattanooga, Cleveland and Oak Ridge.

In a news conference after the address, Fleischmann said he has not responded to an e-mail request from GOP rival Robin Smith to meet and reconcile differences that arose during the bitterly fought race. Smith, a Hixson health care consultant and former state GOP chairwoman, defeated Fleischmann in Hamilton County but finished second overall, losing by 2 percentage points.

Fleischmann faces Democrat John Wolfe in the Nov. 2 general election.

Glad to see the 3rd district elected another lying politician. And he was not even shy about it. His radio ads were full of outright lies that we all know will never happen.

Chuck wasn't my first choice, or even my second or third, but "anybody but Robin" works for me....

I'm not really a Chuck fan, but I don't know what he lied about. The stuff about Robin was true. If you read her press (which took her days to come out) she admitted to leaving the party in debt. They couldn't make payroll! They claim this is customary! Oh please! I think this is whats wrong with Washington . . . borrow money and pay it back whenever. Susie Ormond will say, Can you afford that? We cannot afford Robin! I don't think it is honorable to run up a debt to get R's or D's elected!

gm1220 - In his ad he claimed he as going to repeal "Obamacare." We all know that is not going to happen. Its one thing to run on party issues but to run on outright lies was terrible. All he was doing was pandering to the uneducated voter.

I emailed his campaign about it and surprisingly, I never got a response!
