Wacker increases chemical plant project to $1.5 billion

Wacker Chemical, which has announced plans to build a new $1 billion plant in Bradley County, said today that it is increasing its investment to about $1.5 billion.

In a press release, the company's board also said it would add an additional 150 jobs to the plant, which originally had been slated to employ between 500 to 600.

The company, which hasn't broken ground on the plant, is investing another $450 million in the plant, according to the release.

"This is very positive economic news and another sign the local economy is breaking out of its slump," said Bradley Mayor D. Gary Davis.
