Pancakes, dripping with butter and warm syrup, are a year-round favorite at The Blue Plate, 191 Chestnut St.

"People go crazy over them," said owner Rob Gentry.

The pancakes are made using locally made Aretha Frankensteins pancake mix. Fresh, never frozen, blueberries are then added as the cakes are cooking.

"They get hot and explode, so when you cut into the pancakes, you don't get a whole blueberry. You get a lot of blueberry flavor throughout the pancakes with every bite," Gentry said.

Pancakes are sold by the stack ($10) with a side order included, such as cheese grits or hashbrowns. For $1 more, you can get an order of Benton ham or bacon, cured in Madisonville, Tenn. Or you can order the pancake plate ($9) that comes with one pancake, an egg and choice of side.

Breakfast is served any time of day at Blue Plate, but on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, it will be the specialty of the house.
