Club sues beer board over license suspension

The Chattanooga Billiard Club has sued the Beer Board of Chattanooga over a three-day license suspension that followed a fatal hit-and-run accident attributed to one of the club's employees.

The club's beer license was suspended for allowing employees to drink on the premises. The suspension was set to take effect Thursday.

On Feb. 4, a CBC employee told the Beer Board that she had been drinking at the club early on the morning of Dec. 23 but couldn't say for certain if her co-worker Jason Lane was drinking as well.

Police say Mr. Lane, driving home after work, struck and killed a Unum worker. He is charged with vehicular homicide.

The club maintains it never has allowed employees to drink on the premises and that its beer license has not been suspended in 27 years of operation.

The lawsuit asks a Hamilton County Chancery Court judge to vacate the order of suspension by the Beer Board.
