SIGNAL MOUNTAIN: Lions' July 4th barbecue coming up

Happy Fathers Day! Remember Dad on this Father's Day and make it a day on Signal Mountain where you can eat, shop and play. The merchant members of the Mountain Business Association will be giving away $25 gift certificates. Shop and register Friday and Saturday to be eligible to win one of three that will be given away.

The Lions July 4th Celebration to be on Monday, July 5, and will begin with barbecue served from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. or until it runs out. The fireworks display will commence at 9:40 p.m. The Lions begin this process in earnest with 1,800 pounds of pork cooked slow over controlled fires onsite. Working in shifts throughout the night, the Lions begin "pulling the pork" at sunrise to get ready for the celebration. Served with beans, slaw and bread, plates are sold for $6 and sandwiches for $3. Bulk sales of pork are available for $9 per pound while it lasts.

The Lions will be offering free vision screening for children one to five years old. The screening can detect problems that cause poor vision in young children and will take place in the old pool house from 1-3 p.m.

The 39th summer production of the Signal Mountain Playhouse is "Brigadoon" and will open on July 9 and run the July 9-10, July 15t-17 and July 22-24.

Directing is Mike Lees, well known in musical and dramatic circles in Chattanooga, and choreographing is Jessica Laliberte Bowman of Squawking Heads Productions.
