LaFAYETTE: Freedom Festival returns July 2

LaFayette Freedom Festival returns back to the downtown recreational center on Friday, July 2. Radio personality Kelly McCoy from WSKZ-FM in Chattanooga will emcee the event, which will run from 5-11 p.m. Admission is free. Headliners Steve G & The Rockerz will kick off their show at 8 p.m. The group has years of experience working alongside such acts as the Temptations, the Tams, the Drifters, Dennis Yost & the Classics IV, Archie Bell and many others. They deliver an energetic performance that includes the best of the '60s and '70s Motown, everyone's favorite oldies and some not-so-oldies as well.

The LaFayette-based group, Dancers at Heart will perform from 7:30-8 p.m. near the stage at the LaFayette Municipal Park on 638 S. Main St. They have been together nearly a decade and will line dance to a variety of music. The event will also feature entertainment, food and activities vendors.

The old timer's baseball game begins at 7 p.m., and the pool will be open for a free swim from 7-9 p.m. Registration for the 3-on-3 basketball tournament begins in the gym at 5:30 p.m.; the cost is $5 per player. Following the music, fireworks will begin at dark after 9:45 p.m.

Bring a lawn chair and spend the evening. No animals are permitted except for working animals. The City of LaFayette and LaFayette Woman's Club are sponsoring the event. For more information, contact the LaFayette Parks and Recreation Department at 706-639-1590.
