James Cox

James R. "Jim" Cox died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2010, in Naples, Fla.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.

The service will be officiated by Father Don Fishburne and Father Jim Marquis.

Visitation at the church will be one hour before the service.

A reception will follow the service at the church in the Key Andrews Hall.

Ruby Crooks

Ruby Crookshanks Crooks, 100, a resident of Soddy-Daisy, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 20, 2010, from her home.

She will be missed by her family and dedicated support team who cared for her.

She was born and raised in Jonesborough, Tenn. She graduated from Jonesboro High School, attended Martha Washington College, and graduated from East Tennessee State College. She taught school at Wesley Chapel Elementary School in Grundy County, Tenn., Rossville Elementary School in Georgia and John Allen Elementary in Hamilton County, from which she retired. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Soddy-Daisy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William Oakie Crookshanks and Anna Stuart Hunt Crookshanks, of Jonesborough, Tenn.; husband, James Madison Crooks, of Soddy-Daisy; brothers, William Crookshanks, of Tennessee, Jess Crookshanks, of Florida; and great-granddaughter, Kelly Crowder Davis, of Georgia.

Survivors include her sons and their wives, Oakey Joe (Charlotte) Crooks, of Marietta, Ga., Dr. William P. (G.G.) Crooks, of Bogalusa, La., James Roger (Glenda) Crooks, of Ooltewah, and Jesse Goldman (Diana) Crooks, of Chattanooga; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 23, 2010, in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Seaton Tomyn officiating.

Burial will follow in Varner Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers those who wish can make contributions to First Baptist Church of Soddy-Daisy to the Homebound Ministry in memory of Ms. Crooks at 10185 Dayton Pike, Soddy-Daisy, TN 37379.

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. today, March 22, at the funeral home.

Alonza Grace, 80, passed away Friday, March 19, 2010, at a local health care facility.

Louise "Granny" Green, 92, of Bakewell, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2010, at a local hospital.

She was a member of Sale Creek of God and was loved by everyone who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Buford Green and Sam Fuller, of Sale Creek; son, Samuel Fuller, of Sale Creek.

She is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Grooms, of Bakewell; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Orval Thomas and the Rev. Dennis Goins officiating.

Interment will follow the service at Welsh-Rogers Cemetery.

Rader F. Kirkley, 86, of Chattanooga, passed away on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, in a local health care facility.

He was born in Douglasville, Ga. and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was of the Methodist faith.

Mr. Kirkley was retired from SunTrust Bank as a security guard.

Services will be held 1 p.m. today, March 22, at the Chapel of Devotion at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Curtis Jay Miller, 50, of Chattanooga, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2010.

He was born Oct. 28, 1959, in Chattanooga and was of the Baptist faith. Curtis loved the woods, fishing and fast cars.

He was preceded in death by his father, John B. Miller; brother, Timothy Miller.

Survivors include his son, Curtis J. Brogdon, of Chattanooga; mother, Mary Miller, of Rossville; four brothers, Earl Miller, of Soddy-Daisy, John, Winston and Dusty Miller, all of Rossville; two sisters, Marie and Rebecca Miller, of Rossville.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel.

Interment will follow in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

Alex Moody, 22, of Ooltewah, passed away on Thursday, March 18, 2010.

Alex was born and raised in Chattanooga, Tenn., was a graduate of Ooltewah High School where he was a member of the Marching Band, and was a member of Jones Memorial United Methodist Church.

Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Linda and Donald Faul; father and stepmother, Barry and Sherry Moody; fiancée, Emily Bridges; step-brother, Travis Faul; step-sister, Monica (Micah) Carroll; grandparents, Edward and Nancy Kemper; grandmother, Opal Moody; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, John W. Moody.

Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m. today, March 22, 2010, at Jones UMC with Dr. T. David Tabor officiating, and visitation one hour prior to the service.

He was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Snyder Brown; children, James Smith, Anna Lea Snyder, and Ernie McWilliams; parents, Joe and Emma Bowman Brown; and brothers, Raymond, Freeman, and Wayne Brown.

DAYTON -- Walter Ed Couch Sr., 64, died Saturday, March 20, 2010.

He was a long time resident of Dayton, Tenn., and a Veteran of the U.S. Army. He attended Wayside Baptist Church.

He was preceded by wife, Elizabeth Irene Couch; parents, Walter and Carrie Couch; two brothers, Francis and Bill Couch, son-in-law, Domingo Gonzales.

He is survived by seven children, Walter Ed Couch Jr., Karen Gonzales, Mary Tillotson, April Diaz, Gale Shelby, Lloyd Couch, and Donna Phillips; five sisters, Kathy Hixson, Rita Brooks, Diane Graham, Beatrice Nation, and Ruth George; two brothers, Marion and Jimmy Couch; companion, Freda Wampler; 18 grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

CLEVELAND -- Wanda Yates Tate Lewis, 65, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2010, in a local hospital.

She was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by her husband, Daniel D. Henry Wirth

EVENSVILLE -- Henry Fredrick Wirth, 69, died Sunday morning, March 21, 2010 in Erlanger Medical Center.

He was bom in Pittsburg, Pa. on June 17, 1940, the son of Harry and Ruth (Maiers) Wirth.

Henry served his country with the US Air Force and was of the Episcopalian faith. He was a commercial truck driver and had lived in Rhea County since 1982.

He was preceded in death by his father and by his son, Charles Wirth.

He is survived by his daughter, Tammy Wirth, of Evensville; his son, Richard Wirth, of Conn.; his mother, Ruth Wirth of Pa.; two brothers, Gary Wirth, of Conn. and Robert Wirth, of Pa.; granddaughter, Misty VanWinkle and two great-granddaughters; Macey and Morgan Adams, all of Soddy-Daisy.

Funeral services with military honors for Henry will be this evening at 7 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Bill Smithson officiating.

Kathy Capps

ROSSVILLE -- Kathy D. Capps, 54, passed away Saturday, March 20, 2010, at a local hospital.

She was a lifelong resident of Rossville graduating from Rossville High School in 1974. After graduation, Kathy received a Masters Degree in Nursing. She had worked as an RN at Erlanger Hospital, and had worked the past 23 years as a Nursing Consultant for the State of Tennessee. Kathy loved her family and enjoyed traveling in her spare time.

She was preceded by her father, Elmer Hickman.

Survivors include her son, Keith McNeese, of Rossville; daughter, Jennifer McNeese, of Chattanooga; mother, Flora Hickman, of Rossville; brother, Brian (Sonya) Hickman, of Rossville; sister, Gail (Wayne) Fuqua, of Knoxville; grandson, Matthew McNeese, of Rossville; two nephews, Greg and Jacob Hickman, of Chickamauga.
