DeKalb, Fort Payne schools on two-hour delay for weather

Schools in DeKalb County and Fort Payne, Ala., are on a two-hour delay for heavy rains, school officials said this morning.

"It's just a lot of rain, and right now, it's kind of over the roads a little bit," DeKalb County central office receptionist Annie Varner said.

The same is true for the city system in Fort Payne, where officials called the delay before the heavy weather arrived.

"We were expecting some severe weather so we delayed it two hours," said Melinda Horton, secretary in the city school system's central office.

Officials with both systems said there had been no weather-related damage at any schools so far.
