Wynn's wait not wasted

The fifth-year senior runs for 122 yards and a touchdown in his first start in almost two years.

Erroll Wynn waited nearly two years to get his starting job back.

He should have it again next week.

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's fifth-year senior running back gained 122 yards on 17 carries and scored a crucial touchdown late in the second quarter.

"I haven't had that many carries in a long time," Wynn said after the game with ice on his shoulder. "It felt good to be back and make a difference from the start of the game."

With the Mocs backed up on their own 17 with only 1:09 to go in the half, offensive coordinator Marcus Satterfield called for a simple up-the-middle run.

Wynn broke it for 37 yards, which allowed UTC to be aggressive in the final minute of the half. Wynn said it was one of UTC's base power runs.

"I told [Satterfield] to be conservative and give the ball to Wynn and let's see where we go from there," head coach Russ Huesman said. "And [Wynn] pops one, and that was huge right there."

Seven plays later, he ran around the left side for a 2-yard touchdown that gave UTC a 28-9 lead at the break.

"The defense started attacking the box, and that let me get out on the perimeter and score," Wynn said. "When I start working out on Sunday, I'll be getting ready to get more carries next week."

Allison finds end zone

Quarterback-turned-receiver Sloan Allison made the first touchdown reception of his career in the first quarter Saturday.

The junior caught his second touchdown in the third quarter.

On the first score, quarterback B.J. Coleman threw a high pass that Allison pulled down for a 21-yard score. On the second, Allison turned around in the end zone and caught the ball over his head for a 35-9 lead.

"The first one is always the hardest, and it took me three years," Allison said. "On the first one, the other guys cleared the middle and I was open. On the second one, if B.J. didn't put it right there, I wasn't going to catch it."

Skrine returns

Senior cornerback Buster Skrine dressed out for the first time since taking a violent hit and dislocating his right elbow in the season opener.

He wore a bulky brace for his pregame captain duties and took it easy in the first quarter to protect and simply test his arm.

The brace didn't hurt his ability to intercept. Skrine hauled in a long pass attempt from T.J. Pryor late in the third quarter, hampering EKU's comeback attempt.

"I made a hit early in the game and it was throbbing," Skrine said. "Then it got better. Then dude caught a 15-yard out right in front me and Coach got me in check.

"I made the pick with my good arm. I've been waiting all season to get one."

Colonels locals shine

Former Brainerd star Orlandus Harris made a successful return to the Scenic City

His 10-yard touchdown pulled EKU within 19 points with more than six minutes to go in the thirdr quarter. He finished with 10 receptions for 77 yards.

Former Red Bank star Jeremy Caldwell played in the Colonels secondary. He intercepted Coleman in the second half and made nine solo tackles.
