UTC golf teams in the lead

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga golf teams are in top positions after the first round of their respective Southern Conference championship tournaments.

The women's team combined to shoot a 15-over 303 and is eight shots ahead of second-place UNC Greensboro. College of Charleston is in third place and 10 shots behind the Mocs at Moss Creek Golf Club in Hilton Head.

Senior Emma de Groot is the individual leader after shooting a 2-over 74. She scored three birdies and five bogeys. Senior Christine Wolf is tied for second after shooting 75. Freshmen Marion Duvernay and Jordan Britt are tied for fifth at 5 over which gives UTC four golfers tied for fifth or better. Junior Maria Juliana Loza is tied for 11th after a 78.

The men's team is tied tied for first place with Samford and Georgia Southern at 1-under 287 in their tournament being played at the Country Club of South Carolina in Florence. The Mocs, Bulldogs and Eagles are three shots clear of College of Charleston in a tournament that will conclude on Tuesday.

Junior captain Stephan Jaeger shot a 2-under 70 and is tied for fourth. Freshman Chris Robb shot 71. Sophomore Steven Fox and freshman Benni Weilguni each shot 73 and freshman Davis Bunn had the drop score of 74, but he is tied for 21st place.
