Trenton commissioner charged with simple battery

A Trenton, Ga., commissioner was arrested on Sunday and charged with simple battery.

Trenton police arrested 36-year-old City Commissioner Charles Cannon and he was taken to Dade County Jail.

But Detective Shawn Chapa, who arrested Cannon, declined to comment on what the charges stemmed from. He said the arrest report won’t be complete until Tuesday.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been asked to step in and investigate the case to avoid a conflict of interest, Chapa said.
