Wetterich boys emulating cousin

The brothers in this week's AJGA tournament at WindStone play some with the PGA and Nationwide golfer.

Brothers Daniel and Matthew Wetterich play golf several times a year with a PGA and Nationwide Tour professional.

The pro also happens to be their cousin, Brett Wetterich, who has earned more than $225,000 on the PGA Tour and is No. 7 on the Nationwide Tour money list this season.

"It's pretty fun when we play with him," said 15-year-old Matthew. "He's my cousin, and he's himself, so it's not like playing with Lee Westwood or something.

"It's fun playing with him because he's famous and he's real good."

The brothers are participating this week in the Evitt Foundation RTC Junior Classic at WindStone Golf Club, a Gary Gilchrist academy all-star series tournament in the American Junior Golf Association.

This is Daniel's first AJGA event, and he's fought nerves and butterflies for the first two rounds. He doesn't have those feelings when playing with Brett, who has played in eight majors and tied for 32nd at the 2007 PGA Championship.

"It's really cool when we play with him, because he just messes around and doesn't take it serious like he does during tournaments," said Daniel, whose immediate and extended families are based in Cincinnati. "With us, he's just playing to have fun. It's also fun for me to watch him when he's on TV."

Matt is tied for 18th at 5-over-par 145 through two rounds. His 4-over round Wednesday included a chip-in on No. 15 from the side of a hill behind the green. Daniel is tied for 43rd at 151.
