CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Dale R. Hughes was chosen today by the Cleveland City Council to fill the District Five vacancy created by the death last month of Councilman Bill Robertson.
To comply with city personnel rules, Hughes resigned his position as a member of the Cleveland Utilities Board before taking the City Council oath of office from Mayor Tom Rowland.
Hughes was one of five applicants to fill the vacancy interviewed today before the council voted.
After an initial vote of 5 to one, with Councilman Richard Banks voting no, Banks made the motion to accept Hughes by a unanimous acclamation vote.
Hughes’ appointment ends with the 2012 city elections.
