Times Free Press receives several state awards

The Chattanooga Times Free Press won nine awards in the Tennessee Associated Press Managing Editors journalism contest.

Awards were announced in Nashville over the weekend. The Times Free Press won:

* First place, features reporting, Joan Garrett, for “Hard like Nails.”

* Third place, daily deadline reporting, Chris Carroll, for a jailhouse interview story with accused murderer Antonio Henry.

* First and third places, video, Patrick Smith, for “Echoes from the Fog” and “Heart & Desire Winner.”

* Second place, multimedia, Patrick Smith and Tracey Trumbull, “Amazon by the Numbers.”

* Third place, multimedia, photo staff, for the weekly Moment feature.

* Second place, feature photography, Tim Barber, “A Quiet Glide.”

* Third place, sports photography, John Rawlston, “All Tied Up.”

* First place, photojournalism, Allison Kwesell, “Haiti Earthquake.”
