The Chattanooga Football Club has hired University of West Florida men's soccer coach Bill Elliott as its new coach, general manager Sean McDaniel said Thursday.
Elliott, a former Hixson High School standout, will split his time between coaching the Division II Argos in Pensacola during the school year and leading Chattanooga FC.
"He was able to work out a deal with his athletic director at West Florida that allows him to be here during the summer with his family, and so far it looks like [the shared duties] will work just fine," McDaniel said
Elliott, who also coached at Tennessee Wesleyan and Maryville College, has a record of 198-88-28 at West Florida.
Chattanooga FC parted ways with the three-year-old club's only coach, Brian Crossman, in August. McDaniel said the club talked with four coaches about the job before ultimately deciding that Elliott was the best fit.
"We wanted to be very careful about who we selected because Brian built a great launching pad for us to go to the next step," he said. "We wanted to be sure we got the right guy in place, and we believe Bill's that person."
Elliott is allowed to coach the amateur league team composed primarily of collegiate players, but he's not allowed to have any of his current UWF players on the roster.
