A fire this morning destroyed several businesses in Peacock Alley on Hamilton Street in Dalton, Ga., WRCB-TV reported.

The fire was reported shortly after 6:30 a.m. and flames had spread to the roof when firefighters arrived. Low water pressure in a hydrant hampered efforts to douse the flames, WRCB said.

The blaze destroyed 10 businesses, while two others sustained smoke and water damage.

Firefighters were to remain at the scene all day to deal with flare-ups, and the street will remain closed until Monday, according to the television station.

The cause of the fire is unknown.
