Calhoun, Ga., man wanted for filing false assault report

A warrant was issued for a Calhoun man’s arrest after he was accused of making a false police report claiming he had been assaulted by two Hispanic men.

Calhoun police have arrested another man in connection with the case.

Calhoun officers were dispatched to Gordon Hospital early Saturday morning to interview 26-year-old Jermey Wood in reference to an assault case, Police Chief Garry Moss said in a news release.

Wood told police he had been walking on East May Street earlier Friday night when he was attacked by two men, who struck him in the head. Wood also claimed the men stole a ring and his wallet with $75 in cash.

But detectives found inconsistencies in Wood’s story and he told several different accounts, Moss said.

When Woods was interviewed again, he admitted he had made up the story to cover up something that had happened between him and a friend.

Police determined no robbery had been committed and have taken out warrants against Wood for making false report charges, Moss said.

Dakota Lee Couch, 21, of Calhoun has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault, but his connection to Wood is unclear.
