A Cleveland, Tenn., woman was in stable condition Friday after flood waters nearly claimed her life, according to WRCB-TV.

Bradley County EMS spokesman Stan Clark said 34-year-old Brittany Hicks was driving in the area of Harrison Pike and Westside Drive on Thursday night when her car stalled in deep water.

Clark said the rushing water swept the woman away as she sought higher ground, carrying her 200 to 300 yards down a flooded ditch.

At one point Clark said the woman was pinned under a bridge, but eventually broke free and latched onto brush.
